

Users with blocked accounts can continue to use the free Makerspace services but cannot incur additional costs, unless paid for at the time of use.Users need to check in with the Youth Services staff member on duty each time before using the space.The Michigan City Public Library’s Internet Use Policy applies to the Makerspace.Food and drink are prohibited in the Makerspace.Failure to follow the Makerspace Policy can result in loss of Makerspace privileges. All costs are charged to the patron’s library account. The maker (or minor’s parent/guardian) is responsible to pay any Michigan City Public Library costs for use of machines, materials, and supplies provided by the Library, and for all loss or damage to Library property or clean-up expense.The Michigan City Public Library is not responsible for personal property or files.

The Michigan City Public Library reserves the right to deny access to reproducing equipment, including 3D printers, if, in its judgment, use of such equipment would involve violation of copyright, patent, or other laws. The Michigan City Public Library upholds the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) and the patent law (Title 35, United States Code).Projects are subject to approval by staff prior to use of machinery.Only library computers may be connected to library equipment.The Michigan City Public Library reserves the right to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate Library policies, including the creation of weapons, obscene materials, or illegal items.The Michigan City Public Library is not responsible for any manufacturing defects or the quality of workmanship of any of the tools, materials, or equipment supplied by the Library.The Michigan City Public Library is not responsible if a project does not print correctly or does not work (3D printing).Some consumables, such as those for 3D printing, will have a nominal charge, due at the time of use or charged to the User’s account.Some free consumable materials are provided on a limited basis.The workspace also needs to be cleaned by the User. Equipment used in the space must be returned to their original location and in their original condition.Some equipment is available to those who have taken and passed an instructional class on the use and safety of the equipment.Some equipment, such as 3D printing, is limited to children through age 18 who have a valid MCPL library card.Equipment and materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis.Library staff reserve the right to request adult supervision at any time regardless of the age of the child.Some programs may require direct adult supervision regardless of the age of the child.Children ages thirteen (13) and over may be in the library without adult supervision.Children ages ten (10) through twelve (12) must have an adult present in the library.Children under the age of ten (10) must have an adult present in Youth Services.Children ages six (6) and under must have an adult present with them in the Makerspace.Exceptions may occur in cases of library staff-led programming.
